About the Community of Baytown

Baytownians pride themselves on offering southern hospitality with a Texas flair. Perhaps that’s why most residents are fiercely loyal to their community. So, what’s so special about Baytown? The answer depends on whom you ask.

Baytonians enjoy the serenity of a home town with ready access to the excitement and convenience of one of the world’s major cities, Houston, as well as to the popular summer vacation resort area, Galveston Island, both less than an hour away.

Talk to people who live here and one asset that stands out is the community’s concern for neighbors and family. Because new residents with time and ideas to offer are readily welcomed, the city continues to grow and nurture interests ranging from youth sports to programs for the elderly. Local organizations provide for the homeless and special need. Little League, Optimist and YMCA sports teams abound. There are more than 70 houses of worship in Baytown, one per 1,000 residents. Clubs and service groups meet virtually any interest one might have. Baytown is living proof that civic involvement and caring about others is a quality still alive in today’s fast-paced world

Baytown Recreation

When attention turns to leisure time, Baytown’s many recreational opportunities encourage individual excellence as well as family involvement. The Baytown Parks and Recreation Department oversees 950 acres of parks, spray park, large sports complex with lighted softball fields, and tennis courts throughout the community. Organized activities include softball, tennis, flag football, baseball, soccer, track, and youth and adult recreation classes on various topics. Recently two skate parks have opened, two new water parks opened, a dog park, and a disc golf park. Waterways provide fine fresh- and salt-water fishing, bird watching at the Baytown Nature Center, and for sun-worshipers, Galveston’s beaches are only 45 minutes away.
